Company Description:
Quicktate supports a variety of services and apps that convert short
bits of recorded speech into the written word. These include Evernote
apps (voicemail messages and audio notes), TweetCall (dictated tweets),
CallTroops (phoned letters to military personnel), Voice on the Go
(dictated texts). However, Quicktate and its partner iDictate also offer
services for longer transcription projects, which include medical
reports, conference calls, and legal files.
Types of Work-at-Home Opportunities at Quicktate or iDictate:
In these micro jobs,
data entry operators listen to audio files and transcribe them. The
voicemail message files average 1-2 minutes in length, while the other
recordings are longer. Hours are flexible and operators can work as many
or as few hours as they can handle and/or obtain. In this type of crowdsourcing platform, operators log on to the company's system and claim files to transcribe.
Data entry operators begin at Quicktate and may be promoted to
iDictate, which pays more. Quicktate also does medical transcription,
which also pays more. Most Quicktate transcription is done in English or
Spanish. However, the company also seeks transcribers with skills in
French, Italian, German, Chinese, Farsi, Portuguese and Japanese for

Pay and Benefits:
All Quicktate and iDictate's data entry agents are hired as
independent contractors. This means there are no benefits and no

Quicktate and iDictate pay its data entry operators on a per-word
basis. The rate of pay for Quicktate general transcription is $.0025 per
word or 4 words for 1 cent, while the rate for Quicktate medical
transcription and iDictate work is $.0050 per word or 2 words for 1
cent. This might work out to $5-7/hour at Quicktate, but keep in mind
there is not likely enough work to make this a full-time pursuit.
Payment, which is weekly, is through PayPal account only.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Quicktate seeks professional transcriptionists
that follow directions well, have a strong grammar and typing skills,
accurate spelling and punctuation, and can listen to voice files and
accurately type what they hear.
Typists must supply their own equipment, supplies, work space, and
Internet connection. Computers may be Windows-based or Macs and must
have a Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome browser. Additionally, typists
must have a Yahoo IM account and download and install Quicktime. Express
Scribe is a free software application that may be useful. A headset,
and possibly a foot pedal, may be needed.
All contractors for Quicktate must fill out an electronic W-9 tax form even if they are not located in the United States.
Applying to Quicktate:
To apply, create a typist account by filling out an application on the Quicktate website.
Two non-family references are required, and you must answer two short
essay questions. (Be sure to use correct grammar and spelling.)
Next applicants should read through the Help Desk FAQ and other
postings to become familiar with the procedures. Applicants must then
take a quiz that will cover both Quicktate procedures and include an
audio file to transcribe. If you wish to be considered for transcription
in other languages than English or medical transcription jobs you must
complete those audio files.
Expect to wait at least two weeks to hear back from Quicktate. If
your application is approved, you will receive a letter. Until then, you
will not be able to log in to your account and accept assignments.
There is a $15 fee for a background check.
